Ingredients

  • 12 ounces spaghetti dried
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for cooking the sausage
  • 1 pound raw sausage links preferably in a natural casing for fingers
  • 3 cups red tomato sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • to taste salt and pepper

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Skillet or frying pan
  • Cooking spoon
  • Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Tongs

Method

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Remove the sausage links from their casings and break them into smaller pieces, then cook until browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Transfer the cooked sausage to a plate and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Pour in the red tomato sauce and stir to combine with the garlic. Let the sauce simmer gently for 5 minutes to develop flavor.
  4. Add the cooked sausage back to the sauce and stir well, allowing the flavors to meld together for 2-3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. To assemble the creepy fingers, take small portions of cooked sausage in the shape of fingers and make a slight indentation at one end for the 'nail.' Carefully shape each piece and press gently to resemble fingers.
  6. Using tongs or your fingers, dip the sausage fingers into the hot sauce, ensuring they are coated or briefly simmered to absorb the flavor. Arrange the sausage fingers on top of the pasta or serve alongside the sauced spaghetti for a spooky presentation.

Notes

For more realistic finger shapes, score the sausage to resemble knuckles or add small cuts to mimic nails before cooking.
